US 550 – Molas Pass

This project will resurface a ten-mile section of US 550 from Silverton south to the top of Molas Pass. Work involves pavement leveling and an asphalt overlay; it will also include resurfacing at the Molas Pass rest area and paving the entrance to the visitor center in Silverton. It is anticipated the project will be completed on August 20, 2010.

 

US 160 - Shaw Creek East

Resurfacing of a 3.3-mile section of US 160 west of Del Norte. The project was finished ahead of schedule and received CDOT’s highest ever smoothness rating for a resurfacing operation under the HRI (Halfcar Roughness Index) specification.

Grand Junction Regional Airport – Runway Leveling and Overlay

Runway rehabilitation—milling and resurfacing of the 10,500 foot main runway. The goal of the project was to improve the runway surface and ensure its viability until it is relocated in 10 years. The project also included seal coating the crosswind runway, taxiway, and aprons. The seal coating covered 380,000 square yards.

Fruita Access – Intersection Improvement

Safety and capacity improvement at the SH 340 and I-70 interchange. The goal of this project was met by building a double roundabout with a frontage road slip ramp. The roundabouts were 200 feet in diameter, the largest ever commissioned by CDOT. The project received a CAPA “Best in Colorado” award for Best Overall Quality—Urban Highway, New or Reconstruction.
